The Wenass group got its start in the clothing company founded in 1931 by Lars Wenaas – grandfather and great grandfather of the current owners.
In the village of Måndalen in the region of Romsdal, he started production in the cellar of his home. Lars Wenaas got started in the company Sigmund Wenaas Ready-to-Wear Clothing Factory Ltd. (Sigmund Wenaas Konfeksjonsfabrikk AS) at the end of the 1960s. In 1975, the company began with its own trademark name, own models and own sales channels, after having produced for hire since it began operation.
Parallel to the positive developments of the textile company, the Wenaas Group invested in hotel properties.
During the period from 1990 to 2008, the Wenaas Group purchased 22 hotel properties in Norway, 7 hotel properties in Denmark and 6 hotel properties in Russia, including the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel in Oslo, three SAS hotels in Copenhagen and Northern Europe’s largest hotel, the Park Inn Pribaltiyskaya in St. Petersburg. By the end of 2009, the group owned a total of 20 hotels in Norway, Denmark and Russia, including one under construction in Oslo.
The options contract for the purchase of La Canaria was entered into in December of 2009. The final purchase agreement will be entered into once the building permit is obtained in the first half-year term of 2010.
